Pathway to Excellence is a designation to celebrate

Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center (CHRHC) and the east region of the Carle health system achieved a major milestone in patient care in 2018. After more than a year of writing and evidence collection, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded Carle with the first-ever Pathway to Excellence designation given to a care provider in the state of Illinois, an exemplary institution for nursing excellence and patient care. This sets the organization a part and ensures a higher level of service for patients.

“Pathway to Excellence is all about making the patient experience better and providing excellent care to the members of our community,” said Selena McCalla, currently a Family nurse practitioner in the Carle east region.

Pathway to Excellence celebrates organizations that encourage:

  • Employee engagement.

  • Participation in evidence-based research to further improve patient care.

  • A culture of excellence that supports growth.

Pathway to Excellence

“Receiving the Pathway to Excellence designation is a testimony to the commitment we have to delivering quality care to our patients in the east region and all of Carle. The journey to achieving the designation was an awesome experience. Witnessing nursing from various areas of practice come together to discuss ways they incorporated using evidence based practices into their everyday delivery of care gave me a great sense of pride,” said Kim Longfellow, MSN, director of Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center Hospital Nursing.

The Pathway to Excellence six pathway standards are: shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being and professional development.

“Carle will hold the designation for four years, and then we plan to start the application process over,” said Pam Bigler, chief nursing officer and executive vice president. “Maintaining a designation like Pathway to Excellence is part of our long-range strategic plan.”

Nurses and employees across the system are still celebrating the news that Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center and Carle east region ambulatory and inpatient areas are Pathway to Excellence designated.
